bring me a dream
Not every crystal will work for you
There are a number of crystals that can help with sleep, whether it be unable to get to sleep, nightmares, or waking up in the early hours and not being able to get back to sleep.
When we sleep we are in a receptive state and can be even more sensitive to crystal energy.
However, having lots of crystals where you sleep can do the opposite of what is intended, and in fact cause over stimulation of the mind. Additionally, what works for one person may not work for you. Just because you both have insomnia, or sleep disturbances, the underlying cause may be very different.
Additionally, people on the spectrum are often more sensitive to external sounds and sensations, meaning that some of the usual crystals for sleep may be too strong.
Crystal Suggestions
Sleep is a lower chakra activity, so crystals associated with the lower chakras are particularly supportive as they will calm, sooth, reduce stress. Generally small pieces or tumble stones would be a good choice.
There are a number of crystals that a generally recommended for sleep, but where they are focused on upper chakra activities, such as heightening intuition, deepening mediation they may not be for you.
Here are some that I would recommend giving a go.
Black Tourmaline
Black Tourmaline is protective, grounding, and calming. It helps neutralise the intense energy going through our minds, bringing in a feeling of deep relaxation flowing throughout the body. It’s energy protects your mind and heart from any negative or disturbing thoughts, absorbs negative energy from your aura whilst you are asleep, making it a good choice for insomnia and a desire for an undisturbed sleep.
This crystal can be placed under your pillow or on a bedside table.
Smokey Quartz
Smokey Quartz is a gentle, warm and stable grounding stone. It can help you sleep by soothing the buzzing energy of your crown chakra and bringing in a feeling of calm. This crystal is also great to help regulate sleep cycles.
Put this crystal under your pillow or hold it in your hand until you fall asleep.
Mookaite Jasper
Lepidolite
Lepidolite is a crystal that contains lithium which is often used in drugs for treatment depression and mood disorders.
Associated with the third eye chakra, it too communicates with our body’s clock telling it when to sleep, helping to restore healthy sleep patterns. It can help balance mental and emotional energies and help with sleep disturbances and nightmares.
One to experiment with either under the pillow or on a bedside table.
Howlite
Howlite is a beautiful stone found in many shades of white and gray, with spider web-like patterns.
It is often used in mediation as it can slow down the mind, and has a calming, soothing energy and is associated with peace. It is a great choice in supporting the body as you fall asleep and can help struggles with insomnia and nightmares. This gentle white stone helps absorb stress and worries so is another great crystal for sleep.
Put this gentle stone under your pillow.
Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz is in my opinion a queen amongst crystals.
It promotes feelings of self love, self compassion and self acceptance, and is a gentle, loving crystal for anyone struggling with negative thoughts at night. It heals mind body and soul and surrounds you in loving, positive energy, bring a calmness that stays with you.
Sleep with this under your pillow for sweet dreams.
Amethyst
I have included the amethyst as it is one of the most popular and common suggestions for sleep. However, I did not get on well with it, having terrible dreams, and I know of others who have had their worst sleep ever using it. So use this with caution!
In general it can promote deep sleep and help attune your brown to calming frequencies. It can also help reduce those anxious thoughts that prevent sleep from coming.
However, it as it is a upper chakra crystal, it activates those chakras, especially the Crown, and can disturb your sleep further, giving vivid dreams and even nightmares.
It can be used to clear your energy during the day which could help with sleep issues, but if you must have a piece in your bedroom, ensure it is as far away from your bed as possible.
